The Madera is American Standard's most popular floor mounted flush valve toilet. It is an elongated bowl toilet. It was originally made by Maddock, but then Standard bought out Maddock. In the past, there was a tank version. These toilets were originally only standard height, even after the Cadet on a flush valve was made, but the 5th generation was the first generation to be available in standard and ADA height. This page will be talking about the models of American Standard Madera toilets.

1st generation
These toilets are not based of the Maddock Madera, they were redesigned. These toilets have an octagon art deco base with details. These toilets were designed for high pressure in many applications. These toilets were also available with low tanks. These toilets were made from either 1929 or 1930-sometime in the 1940s?

2nd generation
This is very similar to the 1st generation, but some of the art deco details on the base were removed. It is unknown if a complete tank version was ever sold, or if you had to buy the bowl and tank separately for a tank Madera. This generation was made from sometime in the 1940?-1963.

3rd generation
This design was made for the new quiet flush flush valves. It had a square-ish base, and a flat part in the front of the rim. For the first about 5 years after this design was made, it was called the "New Madera". These toilets were also available with low tanks. The back spud model might have been discontinued earlier than 1982. It is unknown if this is true. This generation was made from 1963-1981. There is also a version with a slightly less round trapway, but is not thought to be a defect. There is also a top spud version with bedpan lugs.

4th generation
This generation was made because in 1982, toilets were required to use 3.5 gallons per flush. This model looks very similar to a standard height Cadet from around the time. This is the first generation of the Madera with a (visible) syphon jet. This model is distinguished from the Cadet on a flush valve by these differences. It is unknown if a back spud model was ever available
1. The base is round on the Cadet on a flush valve, but not on the Madera.
2. The trapway is a little different.
3. The back part of the bowl near the water inlet is wider on the Cadet on a flush valve.
This generation was made from 1982-1996.

5th generation
This generation was made as a 1.6 gpf model of the Madera. This was the first generation of the Madera to be available with standard and ADA height. This generation, for a period of time, was made at the same time as the 4rd generation. This generation is widely hated by toilet fans because of the average flush, tendency to leave toilet paper behind, how common they are, and the poor bowl rinse. It is unknown if a back spud model was an option, but it was not made sometime in 2002. This generation was made from 1992 (unconfirmed)-2009 (unconfirmed).

6th generation
This generation is very similar to the newest generation Afwall, Priolo, Cadet Pressure Assisted, and Yorkville. This generation is designed to either flush on 1.6 gallons per flush, 1.28 gallons per flush, or 1.1 gallons per flush. 1.1 gallons per flush was probably not originally an option. This generation is an improvement over the previous generation. There is a top and back spud model. This generation was made from 2009 (unconfirmed)-present. These toilets have been Maximum Performance tested to 1000 grams for all flush volumes with American Standard flush valves. There might be an older generation with a more rounded rim, and a newer generation with a more square rim, but this is unconfirmed.
